The Perfect Healthy, On-the-Go Snack

The Perfect Healthy, On-the-Go Snack

This portable, sweet and salty snack packs in nutrition without sacrificing deliciousness.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the occasional convenience store stop for a slushie and a package of powdered donuts, but I don’t feel good about it later. Especially on a road trip with my family, I prefer to pack homemade snacks with ingredients I trust.

This cherry chocolate snack mix is a winner with our family. It’s loaded with our favourites: almonds, chocolate and cherries, and it’s easy to prepare in large batches (and equally easy to divide into smaller portions). Stash a few snack mix bags in your cooler, car, purse or diaper bag and you’re good to go!

It’s perfect for those days when you’re shuttling the kids from school to track practice to piano lessons. It’s a lifesaver to have tucked away in your purse for busy no-time-for-lunch errand-running days when drive-thru fries and milkshakes are calling your name. It’s also smart to have a few baggies tucked into carry-on luggage for flights, too. The days of “beef or chicken” are long gone, and sometimes a tiny pouch of peanuts just doesn’t cut it on a four-hour plane ride.

Salty and sweet, crunchy and chewy, this delicious mix of dried cherries, raw and salted almonds, and chocolate chips satisfies all those road trip cravings at once. The addition of rice cereal makes it a little lower in calories than a typical trail mix and more budget-friendly as well.

Dried cherries tend to be a little pricy, so if you find them on sale, stock up! If you’ve never tried dried cherries, prepare to fall in love with these plump and sweet little beauties! So this summer (and throughout the year), bypass the convenience store snacks for a healthy, light, easy and scrumptious alternative… and arrive at your destination with no road food regrets!
