1. Banana-Raspberry-Flaxseed Smoothie
Raspberries are loaded with antioxidants, bananas are a premium source of potassium, and flaxseed contains essential omega-3 fatty acids.
Ingredients
1⁄2 ripe banana
125 mL (1⁄2 cup) fresh raspberries
15 mL (1 tbsp) ground flaxseed
125 mL (1⁄2 cup) low-fat milk or milk of your choice (soy, almond, light coconut milk)
125 mL (1⁄2 cup) ice
Instructions
- Combine ingredients in blender and process until smooth
- If it’s too thick, add milk to your liking. Serve and enjoy
2. Green Lemon Smoothie
Kale is the superstar of super foods but its taste can be a bit harsh. Lemon helps cut the grassy flavour and apples add natural sweetness.
Ingredients
6 leaves romaine lettuce, roughly chopped
6 stalks kale, inner ribs removed and roughly chopped
1-2 apples, peeled, cored and chopped
1 lemon, juiced
2 1/2 centimetres (1 inch) fresh ginger, peeled
125 to 250 mL (1⁄2 to 1 cup) water
Instructions
Combine ingredients in blender. Add more water if too thick and puree until smooth
3. Power Berry Smoothie
- A sweet and slightly tart way to enjoy a heaping spoon of protein powder.
Ingredients
250 mL (1 cup) blueberries
125 mL (1⁄2 cup) strawberries
15 mL (1 heaped tablespoon) of protein powder
250 mL (1 cup) milk of your choice
