4 Outdoor Exercises You’ll Love

If you’re a fan of the great outdoors, make nature your gym.



When the weather is calling you to the outdoors, why not take your workout with you? Here are a few suggested exercises to get you started — after you consult your doctor to make sure you’re physically capable of activity, of course.

1. Swimming
Swimming has the reputation of being a near perfect exercise. Not only is it a full-body cardio workout, it strengthens your muscles as well. And it’s easy on the joints, expands lung capacity and causes fewer injuries.

Look to join a community centre with an outdoor pool or head to the nearest lake. You don’t need to have a regimented workout plan per se, because swimming is a fun way to get some exercise.

2. Bicycling
Grab a bike and make it a fun outing with your spouse or friends! Not only are you taking your workout outside, but you get to experience some bonding time as well.

Tip: Plan a route with the destination in mind! Instead of setting out to bike 5 miles, pick a coffee house 5 miles away and get a group together to bike there once a week.

3. Stairs
The beauty of stairs or bleachers is that they are good for so many things other than running on! Use them for some tricep dips or add some incline pushups. Try repeating this for a few reps to really feel the burn.

4. Take a Hike!
Yes, you could hit the gym for an hour and mix up a fast-paced incline run with a few minutes on a stair climber, but why not enjoy the great outdoors at the same time? Going for a hike is great exercise as you get the same benefits of those machines without even realizing it. Plus, a little fresh air never hurt anybody.

Just remember — anything you do and everywhere you go, there is always an opportunity to get a workout. Get outside, be creative and get moving!
