At this stage, you’ve learned more about who you are and what makes you happy, and you wear your confidence well. Here are five tips for making this age the best one yet.
Tosca Reno is an author, certified nutritional therapy practitioner, fitness model and motivational speaker. She started her journey with fitness in her 40s and is living proof that it’s never too late to transform your life.
1. Clean up Your Diet
What you eat makes a world of difference in how you feel, and eating healthy doesn’t have to be difficult. Tosca likes to keep it simple with just one rule: Eat from nature. A diet based on clean, whole, nutrient dense, minimally processed foods is friendlier on your digestion. Adding fibre can also help, and powders like Metamucil are readily available and easy to mix into any beverage. Of course, consult your doctor before instituting any major dietary changes.
2. Drink More Water
The #1 nutritional deficiency in North America is water; a surprising fact, given that many of us carry it at all times. Measure 3 liters of water in three 1-liter bottles at the start of your day – a visual cue that you need to consume that amount of water. If you haven’t quite reached your goal, you’ll be guzzling before bed.
3. Incorporate Probiotics
Optimize your digestive process by making friends with probiotics, like Align. These little workhorses flood the tummy with friendly bacteria that encourage ready digestion, and as a result, access to all the nutrients available from the foods we eat.
If you’ve never practiced meditation before it may sound intimidating, but really it means you take time every day to reflect on the day before, and the day ahead. Sit quietly. Become aware of the world around you. Concentrate on your breath and gather focus from the calm. Even just 15 minutes of quiet meditation can help you center yourself and feel ready to take on the day.
5. Exercise Daily
Thirty minutes per day spent exercising at a maximum heart rate of 65 percent or higher has a dramatically positive effect on brain health while maintaining a functionally fit body. Tosca says, “When it comes to exercise, I often hear questions about bladder leaks, a growing concern for Canadian women as they age that can often be a detractor for fitness. The good news is that Always Discreet is available to help make bladder leaks feel like no big deal. They have a smooth, undetectable fit that gives women the reassurance that they can stay active and in the game.”
