When the cold weather sets in and the days become shorter, we can have the tendency to fall into a slump. Sure the summer, spring, and autumn may be in the past, but there are ways to make the winter a blast! You’ll be looking forward to the winter days and nights with these joy-inducing activities and tips. Read on for five ideas to make winter a true wonderland.
There’s no reason to let the dark, grey winter get you down. There’s so much to be excited for!

1. Outdoor Exercise and Activities
While it may be easy to stay inside all day when it’s frosty outdoors, take a shot at bundling up and getting out the door. If you have plans for fun outdoor activities, you’ll be rearing to go.

There’s no other time of year when you and the family can build a snowman or an igloo or create beautiful snow angels in the yard. Grab the kids and go sledding at a local hilly park or find a spot to practice ice skating. These winter moments will stay in your family members’ hearts and minds for years to come.

Tip: Be sure to snap some photos of these special days — when summer comes, you’ll yearn for memories of the cold!

2. Indulge in Comfort Foods
Of course, nobody recommends overdoing it, but winter is the perfect time of year to cook and enjoy those warming foods that remind you of family.

  • Test out different variations of mac and cheese by adding new ingredients like different cheeses, meats and veggies.
  • Steam up some hot cocoa with tons of mini-marshmallows.
  • Prep a meal in the slow cooker or get a hearty stew going so when you get in from shovelling all that snow, you’ll have a nourishing dinner ready to go.

3. Get Snuggly
There’s something wonderful about warm, fuzzy winter clothing, heavy blankets and toasty pj’s. Nothing puts a smile on your face like slipping on some cute slippers and piling up on the couch for a family movie night. All those soft sweaters, scarves and hats have been waiting all year to be seen.

4. Volunteer
The wintertime and holiday season bring out the very best in people. Volunteering will help those in your community and make you and your family feel so wonderful about yourselves.

5. Stay Hydrated
We all know how important it is to drink plenty of water in the hot weather, but it is just as important during the winter. The air is dry, the heaters are blasting, and you are always bundled in layers. You may not realize it, but we sweat all the time, even when you can’t feel it.

Dehydration will keep you from looking and feeling your best during the chilly months ahead. Always sip plenty of water, tea or other non-sugary drinks throughout the day just as you would in summer.
