Winter Wedding Flower Ideas

Incorporate one of these gorgeous, seasonal flowers into your wedding bouquet or décor.

Just because it’s chilly outside, it doesn’t mean that there aren’t winter-worthy wedding flowers. There’s no need to import expensive buds from other climates — there are plenty to choose from and in-season flowers generally go for a reasonable price.

The key to any winter arrangement is a lush colour palette. Winter not only includes the holiday seasonal palette of bold reds, icy whites and lush greens, but also deep hues like purple or navy and soft frosty pastels.

Here are some of the best choices for winter wedding flowers.

Roses
Roses are a classic flower available in many different sizes and shades. You can create a bouquet or centrepiece with roses in just one colour, like white or red, and its simplicity will be stunning. Roses are beautiful mixed with other flowers and greenery in a bouquet.

Poinsettias
This seasonal favourite is perfect for winter — especially a wedding scheduled over the holidays. Usually available in red, pink or white, this large bloom can be used as the “star” flower in any arrangement. Its large size is perfect for creating a larger bouquet with fewer stems.

Tip: Pillars topped with poinsettias look gorgeous lining a wedding ceremony aisle.

Amaryllis
With a similar shape to poinsettias, this flower is also perfect for monochromatic bouquets or being the pop of colour in a centrepiece. Amaryllis comes in many beautiful shades, but a bold red is always stunning.

Hydrangeas
Available year round, this flower is perfect on its own. While it’s acceptable to mix hydrangeas in an arrangement, you can definitely save on cost by using this flower in clusters on its own. An icy blue or deep purple bouquet is ideal for the bride who wants a little colour in her winter wedding.

Calla Lilies
This delicate-looking, yet strong, flower is an easy accessory for any winter wedding. A bouquet of these straight-stemmed flowers tied with a simple ribbon is elegant and polished. Lilies mixed with roses, amaryllis and greenery are great for larger bouquets or centrepieces. These are also available in a variety of colours, but are especially beautiful in white.
