The rock star theme is perfect if you’re looking to throw a fun, creative and energetic bash to celebrate a loved one. It’s easy to personalize for boys or girls of all ages and incredibly versatile — from the colours you choose (black and white with a splash of colour always works well) to the playlist, the possibilities are endless. Regardless of what your final party plans may be, everyone is sure to enjoy their time spent living like rock stars, especially the headlining guest of honour:
Invitations: Set the tone for your party with invitations that look like VIP tickets! Use concert buzzwords such as “world tour,” “in concert,” “doors open,” “show time,” and “admit one.”
Party décor : Display old records or album art to spruce up the party space or use a photo of your child to create concert posters to hang up.
Playlist and party favours: Let the playlist pull double duty by playing it during the party and then burning it onto CDs to hand out as party favours. The best part is that every time your guests listen to it at home or in the car, they will think of what a great time they had!
Guitar decorating: Kick off the festivities with a cardboard guitar-decorating contest. Later on, your guests can put their creations to good use during a jam session and dance off. Guitar-shaped cutout cookies work too!
Rock star hair: Find well-ventilated spot at the party to set up a rock star hair station. Stock it with coloured hairspray, crazy wigs, bandanas and brightly coloured hair clips and let your party-goers get at it!
DIY photo booth: Look for a spot at the party that has good natural light and hang a flat sheet or fabric to use as the backdrop. Fill a basket with props such as cool sunglasses, big lips made from construction paper, crazy wigs, boas and a guitar and have guests pose for photo ops.
Tip : Be sure to ask a friend beforehand to be in charge of taking the pictures – a good camera phone will do. Send out the pictures later with thank you notes.

Stick with the concert theme on the snack table as well:
- Keep things sweet and festive by displaying rock candy in your colour theme.
- Make or purchase cookies shaped like guitars, guitar picks, stars, microphones or music notes and have guests decorate them throughout the party.
- Instead of a big cake, make cupcakes that look like microphones by baking cake batter in sugar cones, frosting the top once they have cooled and dipping in black or silver sprinkles.
- Dip pretzel rods in chocolate or coloured yogurt to resemble fancy “drumsticks.”
