Touchdown for Entertaining: Ideas for Your Gameday Party

Cheer on your favourite team on gameday by hosting a sports-themed party.

Football season is in the air, and so is the time for entertaining! If you’re hosting family and friends for a gameday celebration, go the extra mile (or shall we say yard) with these sports-themed décor ideas!

Get the Field Ready
Cover your serving table with turf grass, which you can find and have cut to size at a home improvement store. Turn it into a football field by laying down white tape for yard lines. Use yellow napkins to replicate penalty flags.

Serve individually portioned desserts, like cupcakes or cake pops. If desired, split in half and decorate according to team colours with tinted frosting or edible décor. You can even display them on either side of the table to mimic the fans. For another dessert option, cut a sheet cake into the shape of a football and cover with chocolate frosting. Add the football’s stitching with white decorator icing.

From Kick-off to Final Whistle
Most anything can become gameday-related with a little creativity, but if you’re looking for some instant ideas and inspiration, read on!

Party food is usually small and bite-sized. Turn classic stadium fare into mini appetizers like pigs in a blanket, mini pizzas, chicken wings and nachos served in small disposable containers.

Set up crunchy snacks within reach of the viewing party for easy munching. Think popcorn, peanuts, chips and pretzels in paper cones, paper sacks or muffin tins. You can add a fun twist to popcorn by providing a sampling station. Include both sweet and salty varieties, or let guests add their own flavourings to plain popcorn.

Decorate the rest of the space using fan paraphernalia like pompoms, foam fingers and team pennants.

Final Countdown: No need to stay inside after the game is over. Move the party outside for an active finale! You can suggest a quick game of touch football while providing other activities for kids and casual sports fans, like game blankets, dominoes, playing cards and magazines. And don’t worry about getting your clothes dirty or smelly. With the stain-fighting power of Oxi and the odour-elimination technology of Febreze, Gain Flings will give you clean, amazing-smelling laundry – no matter how stinky!

Make small party favours for each guest to take home. Provide the same item to everyone, but package in two different colours for fans of each team. Tip: Edible treats are great options and easy to customize. Fill cellophane bags with sweet and salty trail mix or granola, and tie off using ribbon in each team’s colour.
