Let's think about some of the best things winter brings: breaking out the cosy sweaters; snuggling next to a warm fireplace; the pristine beauty of a blanket of fresh, untouched snowfall; pelting hapless victims with perfectly packed snowball after snowball. Ah yes, winter brings a smile to all.
One of the most delicious ways to enjoy winter is with some hot cocoa. A cup of piping hot, chocolatey cocoa can warm the heart and soul of all who are in need of a brief respite from winter's chill.
We aren't talking about that packet of chalky powder with the shrivelled up marshmallow-esque bits that you dump into a mug before adding water. Goodness, no. We're talking about homemade cocoa lovingly tended to in your slow cooker, a concoction so rich and creamy that it's worth the extra TLC to make.
Slow Cooker Classic Cocoa
Prep time: 5 minutes
375 mL (1 1/2 cups) whipping cream
350 mL sweetened condensed milk
1500 mL (6 cups) milk
5 mL (1 tsp) vanilla
455 grams (16 oz) milk chocolate chips
- Stir together all ingredients except marshmallows in a slow cooker
- Cover and cook on low for 2 hours, stirring occasionally
- When mixture is hot and all chocolate chips are melted, ladle cocoa into a mug and top with all those marshmallows
- Serve. Drink. Smile
A tried and true classic milk chocolate cocoa is always a hit, while twists like peppermint or peanut butter can add some new flavours to the mix. There's no limit to the ways you can spice up this winter staple, so use your imagination when making this winter warm-up delight!
