Classic Lasagne Recipe

Whip up this tasty, hearty Italian classic in less than two hours.

Ingredients (serves 8 people)

  • 455 grams (1 pound) ground beef
  • 225 grams (1/2 pound) Italian sausage
  • 1 jar tomato sauce
  • 1 litre (32-ounce) container ricotta cheese
  • 750 millilitres (3 cups) mozzarella cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 250 millilitres (1 cup) Parmesan cheese
  • 30 millilitres (2 tablespoons) parsley
  • 10 millilitres (2 teaspoons) salt
  • 10 millilitres (2 teaspoons) pepper
  • 1 package lasagne noodles
  • 125 millilitres (1/2 cup) water

  1. Brown ground beef and sausage over medium heat in large saucepan, drain and return meat to pan

  2. Add tomato sauce and simmer for 5 minutes, set aside

  3. Mix ricotta, 500 millilitres (2 cups) of mozzarella, eggs, 125 millilitres (1/2 cup) Parmesan, parsley, salt and pepper in mixing bowl

  4. Evenly spread 175 millilitres (3/4 cup) of sauce mixture in the bottom of 23-by-33-centimetre (9-by-13-inch) baking dish

  5. Cover with 3 uncooked noodles

  6. Spread 325 millilitres (1 1/3 cup) of cheese mixture on top of noodles and 50 millilitres (1/4 cup) of sauce mixture

  7. Repeat layers twice

  8. Top with remaining noodles, sauce and cheese mixture

  9. Pour water along edges of pan

  10. Cover with aluminium foil and bake for 50 minutes at 180 C (350 F)

  11. Uncover, add remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese and bake for 10 more
