Creating tasty popcorn balls is easier than you might think. Serve them at your next get- together or give them as thoughtful homemade gifts. Try getting the whole family involved in the process to enjoy some family time!

250 mL (1 cup) packed brown sugar
250 mL (1 cup) corn syrup
125 mL (1/2 cup) margarine or butter
10 mL (2 tsps) salt
4 litres (16 cups) popped popcorn
Food colouring (optional)

  1. Combine brown sugar, corn syrup, butter and salt in large pot
  2. Heat over medium heat; stirring constantly
  3. If you choose to colour your popcorn balls, add food colouring to mixture
  4. Add popped corn, folding until popcorn is well coated with the caramel mixture (approximately 2 to 3 minutes)
  5. Remove from heat
  6. Transfer popcorn to a bowl and let sit for 10-15 seconds
  7. Dip hands in cold water and shape popcorn into balls while mixture is still warm
  8. Place the balls on waxed paper and let cool
