Ice cream sundaes can only get better when you have delicious toppings! Use our three recipes for homemade toppings that go great with ice cream and beyond.

1. Homemade Marshmallow Fluff
Add a little sweetness and volume to your sundaes with whipped egg whites and sugar.

125 mL (1/2 cup) sugar
2 egg whites
30 mL (2 tbsp) water
500 mL (2 cups) marshmallow cream topping
2 mL (1/2 tsp) vanilla

  1. Boil 235 mL (8 ounces) of water in a medium-size saucepan
  2. In a small heat-proof mixing bowl, combine sugar, egg whites and water
  3. Place bowl on top of the saucepan to create a double boiler
  4. Use an electric mixer to whip the mixture until soft peaks form
  5. Add marshmallow cream and continue beating into stiff peaks
  6. Remove from heat
  7. Blend in the vanilla extract on low speed

2. Homemade Sprinkles
No ice cream cone or treat is complete without sprinkles! Although you can get store-bought bottles, why not treat your palate to custom flavours, too? Make these at least 24 hours ahead of when you need them to allow ample time for drying.
