A Smoothie a Day … Our Favourite Smoothie Recipes

We grew up hearing, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away,” but what about a fruit and veggie smoothie? We’ve rounded up our favourite smoothie recipes so you and your family can get the nutrients you need in a delicious frozen treat!

Banana-raspberry-flaxseed Smoothie

Put those ripened bananas to good use with some fresh raspberries and high-fibre flaxseed.

Serves: 1
Prep time: 5 minutes
You’ll need: A blender

Ingredients
Half of a ripe banana
125 mL (1?2 cup) fresh raspberries?
15 mL (1 tablespoon) ground flaxseed?
125 mL (1?2 cup) low-fat milk or milk alternative (soy, almond, coconut)
1 handful ice (2-3 cubes)

Instructions

1. Combine ingredients in blender and process until smooth
2. If too thick, add some milk

Broccoli Blueberry Smoothie

If disguised is the only way your kids (or even you) will eat broccoli, then this smoothie is the perfect solution.

Serves: 1
Prep time: 5 minutes
You’ll need: A blender

Ingredients
250 mL (1 cup) frozen blueberries
125 mL (1/2 cup) steamed broccoli
250 mL (1 cup) cranberry juice
125 mL (1/2 cup) low-fat plain yogurt
1 handful ice (2-3 cubes)

Instructions

1. Add all ingredients to the blender and mix for 1 minute

High-fibre Berry Green Smoothie

Need to sneak more fibre into your daily diet? Try this yummy, fibrous recipe! 

Serves: 1
Prep time: 5 minutes
You’ll need: A blender

Ingredients
8 leaves spinach, roughly chopped?
250 mL (1 cup) blueberries?
125 mL (1?2 cup) raspberries?
1 lemon, juiced?
5 mL (1 rounded teaspoon) Metamucil Orange Smooth Powder
1 handful ice (2-3 cubes)

Instructions

1. Add all ingredients to the blender and mix for 1 minute

Spiced Carrot Smoothie

Get your daily dose of veggies with a surprisingly spicy twist!

Serves: 1
Prep time: 5 minutes
You’ll need: A blender

Ingredients
125 mL (1/2 cup) apple juice
50 mL (1/4 cup) applesauce
250 mL (1 cup) carrots, cooked and chopped
1 mL (1/4 teaspoon) ground cinnamon
50 mL (1/4 cup) low-fat yogurt
0.5 mL (1/8 teaspoon) cayenne pepper
1 handful ice (2-3 cubes)

Instructions

1. Add all ingredients to the blender and mix for 1 minute
2. Sprinkle cinnamon on top, if desired

Green Lemon Smoothie

The tangy citrus of lemon paired with crisp apples and ginger is a match made in smoothie heaven. 

Serves: 1
Prep time: 5 minutes
You’ll need: A blender

Ingredients
6 leaves romaine lettuce, roughly chopped?
6 stalks kale, inner ribs removed and roughly chopped
1-2 apples, peeled, cored and chopped?
1 lemon, juiced?
2.5 centimetres (1 inch) fresh ginger, peeled?
125 to 250 mL (1?2 to 1 cup) water

Instructions

1. Combine ingredients in blender
2. If too thick, add more water and puree until smooth
