3 No-guilt Slow Cooker Dessert Ideas

Come in from the cold to one of these three guilt-free slow cooker desserts.

Just because the holidays are over doesn’t mean you have to stop making delicious desserts. Here are three recipes full of flavour, but lighter than your average dessert, which should help in keeping your resolutions.

Additionally, these are all slow cooker recipes designed to free you from countless hours of cooking and baking.

1. Chewy and Gooey Applesauce Brownies
Serves: 5-8
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Slow Cooker Time: 2 hours; 15 minutes to set
Difficulty: Easy

Nonstick cooking spray
125 mL (1/2 cup) vegetable oil
375 mL (1 1/2 cups) sugar
15 mL (1 tbsp) vanilla
125 mL (1/2 cup) unsweetened cocoa
125 mL (1/2 cup) unsweetened applesauce
55 grams (2 ounces) semisweet chocolate, melted
5 mL (1 tsp) salt
375 mL (1 1/2 cups) flour
250 mL (1 cup) semisweet chocolate chips


  1. Spray slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray
  2. Combine all ingredients, except the 250 mL (1 cup) of chocolate chips, in a bowl
  3. Once mixed, fold in the chocolate chips
  4. Pour brownie batter into slow cooker, cover with lid and cook on high for 2 hours
  5. Once done, turn slow cooker off and remove lid
  6. Allow brownies to set for 15 minutes before serving

Tip: Garnish your slow cooker brownies with fruit like pomegranate or oranges to sweeten things up without the sugar.

2. Baked Slow Cooker Apples
Serves: 4
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Slow Cooker Time: 4-5 on low OR 2 1/2 hours on high
Difficulty: Easy

4 medium tart baking apples, such as Granny Smith
75 mL (1/3 cup) raisins
50 mL (1/4 cup) packed brown sugar
2 mL (1/2 tsp) ground cinnamon
50 mL (1/4 cup) apple juice
20 mL (4 tsp) margarine


  1. In a small bowl, combine raisins, brown sugar and cinnamon and set aside
  2. Core apples and place in the slow cooker
  3. Spoon the brown sugar mixture equally into all four cored apple holes
  4. Place 5 mL (1 tsp) of butter over each brown sugar filling
  5. Pour the apple juice in between the apples
  6. Cook for 4-5 hours on low or 2 1/2 hours on high
  7. Spoon apples onto plate and serve warm

Tip: Serve alongside vanilla bean frozen yogurt for a tasty variety.

3. Fresh Peach Cobbler
Serves: 4-5
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Slow Cooker Time: 4 hours
Difficulty: Easy

Nonstick cooking spray
75 mL (1/3 cup) pre-packaged pancake mix
150 mL (2/3 cup) dry quick oats
125 mL (1/2 cup) brown sugar
100 mL (4 cups) sliced peaches, about 4 peaches
125 mL (1/2 cup) water
5 mL (1 tsp) cinnamon


  1. Spray bottom of slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray
  2. In a bowl, combine pre-packaged pancake mix, oats, brown sugar and cinnamon
  3. Lay sliced peaches on the bottom of the slow cooker
  4. Pour dry mixture over the peaches
  5. Pour 125 mL (1/2 cup) of water over the entire mixture
  6. Cook on high for 4 hours and serve warm
