Whether you’re planning a large family gathering or just trying to whip up a quick weeknight meal, dirty dishes have a way of piling up in the sink. Make dishwashing less daunting and much faster with our five clever tips.
1. Tackle Large Dish Loads in Stages
It’s tempting to ignore the dirty dishes from a family get-together or holiday dinner until long after dessert, but doing so can make the chore much harder later on. Instead, do a little light work just after dinner: Scrape dirty pots and pans and serving platters, pour fat into a disposable container and place dirty dishes and cutlery in hot water to soak while you enjoy the rest of the meal. When it’s time to tackle the pile, enlist a few volunteers and set up an assembly line. Wash the least-soiled items first, and end with the dirtiest. 2. Easily Remove Baked-On Cheese
It might be delicious and nutritious, but cheese is one of the hardest foods to remove from dirty dishes, especially if it’s baked on. 3. Avoid Odours Left by Fragrant Foods
Some odours and flavours will cling to items like wooden utensils, plastic dishes and porous ceramics, as well as your slow cooker. Garlic, onion, fish and curry spices are the most common culprits. To avoid this problem, rinse pots in hot water as soon as possible after using. Still detecting an odour? Rub lemon slices over your cookware, rinse, and then wash and dry.
4. Eliminate Drink Stains
