5 Fun Sleepover Parties Your Teen Will Love

Help your teen host the sleepover of the summer with these 5 themed party ideas.

School’s out, but that doesn’t mean your teen or tween’s social life has to come to a grinding halt. In fact, summer is a great time to host a sleepover complete with a lot of fun snacks, games or activities, and a unique theme. Use our party ideas below to help your daughter or son prep and plan. You’ll get a chance to bond, and you’ll help your teen hone their organizational and planning skills, too. Then have them click “send” on those e-vites … and bring on the fun!

Sleepover Idea #1: Home Spa

Think facemasks, hair treatments and manis and pedis (just make sure the guests don’t have any skin sensitivities or allergies!). Set up “beauty stations” in the living room or kitchen. These don’t have to be fancy – firm cushions covered in a towel to rest hands or feet on, with a plastic caddy to hold the required equipment, work great. Provide a variety of snacks and drinks, and let your mini stylists go to work!

You’ll need to provide:

  • Olay Daily Facials Sensitive Cleansing Cloths. Clean, makeup-free skin is a must before applying facemasks or other beauty treatments. Olay Daily Facials are soft-textured and fragrance free, so they’re suitable for all skin types, and they soothe and condition skin with light moisturizers
  • A selection of age-appropriate facemasks (avoid any that promise “peeling” effects – they might be too harsh)
  • Elastic hair bands
  • Hair masks. Skin isn’t the only thing that deserves some TLC – hair does, too! Pantene Damage Detox Weekly Rehab Crème removes impurities to help hair stay strong against damage
  • Mani and pedi supplies: nail scissors, files and buffers, nail polish, nail polish remover and hand creams
  • Towels, cotton swabs and cotton balls
  • Fizzy drinks like sparkling grape juice
  • Decadent snacks like chocolate-dipped strawberries
  • A “spa” playlist filled with peaceful tracks

Sleepover Idea #2: Make-a-Movie Night

The beauty of this fun idea is that everyone can have a role: The camera-shy guests will feel comfortable behind the lens, the creatives in the group will love coming up with the story, and the planners can decide on location and shot sequence. Not to mention hair, makeup and wardrobe – and, of course, the stars of the show!

You’ll need to provide:

  • The location (your house, garden or garage)
  • Props and wardrobe essentials (scour thrift stores a week or two before the party)
  • Hair and makeup kit and accessories
  • Movie recorder or smartphone (if guests don’t have their own)
  • Access to a TV to play it back

Sleepover Idea #3: Midnight Baking Fest

It wouldn’t be a slumber party without a midnight feast, so why not encourage the kids to bake their own?

You’ll need to provide:

  • Plenty of dry and wet ingredients for cupcakes, muffins, cookies, etc. Agree on recipes with your child beforehand so you can stock up
  • Baking trays, mixing bowls, wooden spoons and a couple of hand-held mixers (borrow from other parents)
  • Icing and icing tools
  • Cake decorations
  • Pretty cake stands and plates
  • Bounty Quilted Napkins
  • A Swiffer WetJet to easily clean hard floors when the baking is done
  • Dawn dish soap and Bounty paper towels to clean dirty bakeware, utensils and spills

Sleepover Idea #4: Teens Have Talent

Depending on the age of your child, have them create a talent show (split the group into pairs or teams). Then the floor is theirs: dance routines, songs, comedy shows, mini-plays, you name it. The only rules are to show kindness and respect to all the performers. Remember, it’s supposed to be fun!

You’ll need to provide:

  • An appropriate stage and dressing room (your living room and kitchen)
  • Props, wardrobe and hair and makeup (see our “Make-A-Movie Night” idea above)
  • A karaoke machine (optional)

Sleepover Idea #5: Movie Night

This idea is an oldie but a goodie. Tweens and teens alike enjoy nothing more than snuggling down with their PJs on and watching some of their favourite movies while enjoying bowlfuls of snacks. All you have to do is quietly retreat to your bedroom and leave them to it.

You’ll need to provide:

  • Access to your living room and television
  • Access to age-appropriate movies (check with parents first)
  • Snuggly blankets/throws
  • Snacks and drinks
