It’s the first day of school, and your kids are looking their best: Their hair is neatly combed, their teeth are brushed and their outfits are spotless (thanks to Tide PODS!). Plus they’re full of excited anticipation to meet their new teacher and see their friends. While taking photos on the front porch is a must, there are plenty of other unique ways to capture your little ones’ first day:
1. Keep It Natural
We all love posed photos, but as the kids walk to school, make sure to capture candid moments, too. Snap them holding hands and chatting, bending down to retie a shoelace or splashing in a puddle. When you arrive at school, capture them running to greet their friends with hugs and smiles after a summer apart.
2. Snap Their Favourite Subject
If your child is a budding bookworm, grab a shot with them holding a stack of books. If they’re a scientist in the making, set up a photo shoot complete with science goggles and test tubes. If they’re destined for soccer stardom, photograph them in their pristine uniform with a ball tucked under their arm.
3. Make a Collage
In the days leading up to the first day back, help your kids create a back-to-school collage on card stock. Have them include all their favourite things about school, and the things they associate with it. Frame their masterpiece, and then take a picture of them with their work of art!
If scrapbooking is more your style, preserve your photos with a simple layout. Combine two or three coordinating paper designs, embellish with back-to-school-themed stickers and washi tape, and add a sweet photo.
4. Chronicle the Before and After
Take a picture of your child at home in the morning – crisp and clean, shirt tucked in, hair perfectly combed, teeth brushed. Then take another one when they arrive home with smudges of paint on their clothes, looking adorably dishevelled. And don’t worry – Tide Ultra Stain Release will make short work of those stains!
5. Embrace Your Silly Side
Your kids aren’t the only ones who are excited – you’re probably elated, too! For a fun take on the classic first-day photo, get your kids to pose in the background while you leap for joy. The results are bound to make you all giggle.
6. Include the Quieter Moments
Remember to capture the emotion – and, yes, even the tears – of the first day back. If you take your little ones to school with Dad, snap him kissing them goodbye. Or if you’re dropping them off solo, ask another parent to take a picture as you hug your kids before they head to class. Keep a box of Puffs nearby – it’s a bittersweet moment!
Tip: Learn how to remove stubborn stains and keep school clothes first-day fresh – regardless of what art class or P.E. throw at them!
