Have a Valentine’s Day the Whole Family Will Enjoy

These nine fun ideas for Valentine’s Day activities include everyone in the house.

Once you become a mom, Valentine’s Day may no longer mean date night. After all, there’s homework to be done, kids to be fed, books to be read and little baby teeth to be brushed.

Don’t think of them as obligations, though, because each of those things is a true celebration of love.

This year, celebrate Valentine’s Day with all the loves of your life by throwing a festive party. You can invite your closest family and friends or make it a party for just your spouse, children and yourself.

Here are nine activities to make this year’s Valentine’s Day something more than a greeting-card holiday!

Suction Cup Archery
With a suction cup archery set, hold a Cupid contest. Each section of the target can have a prize assigned to it such as candy hearts, a small toy, or extra hugs and kisses.

Valentine’s Story
Make up a silly story about Valentine’s Day. Each family member can add his or her own sentence, going around in a circle until the story is complete.

Share the Love
Each of you can take turns picking one person and saying one thing you love about them. Next, that person picks someone different until you’ve each gotten turn. You could simplify it by having everyone pick a name out of a jar.

Matchmaker Game
Each person is assigned a fictional character, but no one knows who his character is. This is what makes the game fun (and funny). Stick a picture of the character on each person’s forehead and then ask each other yes-or-no questions to find your character’s BFF.

Keep it kid-friendly of course, with pairs they know from childhood movies or stories.

Valentine Cards
Using construction paper, crayons, glue sticks, glitter and whatever else you have on hand, create cards for each other, friends and extended family.

Try making a heart shape with your thumbprints by dipping them in paint, angling them and overlapping them on the bottom to create a point. This gives the card a personalized Valentine’s touch! Make your card heart-shaped with a handwritten message inside. Add finishing touches to any card with drawings and glitter.

The more personalized your card is, the better. These are just a few ideas, but the possibilities are endless.

Table Centrepiece
Working together, you and your family can create a table runner, placemats or even a heart-shaped centrepiece to decorate your special Valentine’s Day meal. But don’t stop there: make hearts you can hang around the house, from the ceiling, on the windows and anywhere else you please.

Heart-shaped Cookies
Bake heart-shaped sugar cookies ahead of time and let the children go all out decorating them with heart sprinkles, icing and candies.

Heart-Shaped Brunch
Start the party off right by making a Valentine’s-themed breakfast complete with heart-shaped pancakes and bacon. Add red food colouring to the pancakes for a fun, festive touch. You can even include heart-shaped toast or French toast and shape cinnamon rolls into heart-shaped treats, too!

Candy-heart Cheesecake
Share the love with some delicious cheesecake baked into the shape of a heart. It’s a sweet treat your guests can take home. To truly give it the candy heart touch, add a fun message on top!

Valentine’s Day is all about showing your love, whether that’s with your spouse, your kids or the entire family.
