9 Fun Indoor Activities

Weather can’t stop fun. Check out these nine indoor activities for kids of any age!

Keeping your kids busy for hours indoors isn’t always easy — especially if they are bursting with energy. If you’re looking to keep them from becoming glued to the couch and the TV, you have to come up with some unique things to keep them engaged.

Here are 9 ideas for fun activities for when your kids are stuck at home without anything to do.

1. Cooking
Sift, stir and pour. Let them help you out with the basics. It’s an opportunity to teach them a little about cooking. Baking muffins, cookies and pizza are all kid-friendly. Use recipes from a cookbook designed for your child’s age group.

2. Dance Party
Play popular music for a dance-a-thon. If your child is taking lessons in ballet or another dance style, they can practice the steps.

3. Showtime
Put on a magic act, a puppet show or anything that involves props, other performers and an audience — including you.

4. Indoor Sports
Play table tennis in the recreation room — or practice yoga or a martial art they study.

5. Arts and Crafts
Make and test out (and chase!) paper planes and other creations. Since it’s nearing the holiday season, craft holiday cards and gifts.

6. Family Pet
Play games with the dog or cat! From tossing a single sock or playing fetch with your pet’s favourite toy, it’s hard to not get the kids involved.

7. Games
Charades and hide-and-seek are great ways to spend a day indoors. A scavenger hunt (hide items and place small items to find around the house) can be loads of fun if you get creative with your hiding spots and “treasure.”

8. Science Experiments
Make a papier-mâché volcano and let it erupt with a mix of baking soda and vinegar.

9. Music
Kids may not think it’s “fun” to learn how to play piano or violin, but if you frame it up as fun, making a song is irresistible! Plus, they can form a band with other young musicians and play pop music together.

While it might not seem like there’s a lot to do in your house, with a little creativity, you can get all your kids up and about. If you have any ideas to keep your kids moving, leave them in the comments section below!
