8 Ways to Wear Coloured Mascara and Liner Every Day

Check out eight tricks for wearing coloured eyeliner or mascara for an everyday look.

Does wearing a coloured eyeliner or mascara sound intimidating? It doesn’t have to be. There are many easily accessible, bright mascara and liner options at your disposal this fall that are excellent alternatives to black or brown. These looks work with a medium to bold lip hue and natural blush. Check out the eight ways to wear coloured mascara and liner every day.

1. One Colour
This look is surprisingly simple: skip the shadow and choose your favourite shade (cobalt blue is mine) and use the same shade for upper and lower lash lines and lashes. Try CoverGirl Liquiline Blast in Blue Boom and Exact Eyelights Mascara in Black Sapphire.

Tip: Rock a shadow primer on your lids to smooth, perfect and even skin tone for a bigger blue pop.

2. Half Moon Monotone
Want a subtler eye effect? Maroon shades make green eyes sparkle and look really pretty and slightly retro when applied on the top lashes only. Try CoverGirl Exact Eyelights Eyeliner in Vivid Ruby and Exact Eyelights Mascara in Black Ruby to lengthen and define lashes.

3. One Hue, Bottom Line
The return of neon, peplum and leggings are just some of the 1980s trends to come back around. I distinctly remember teal liner, just on the bottom lash line, trending in the late 1980s; modernize the look by pairing it with coordinating bottom lash mascara. For an alluring aqua look, try CoverGirl Ink It PerfectPoint Gel Eyeliner in Aquamarine Ink.

Tip: Use it to define the lower lash line, but then draw some vertically onto the bottom lashes to substitute as aqua mascara, before securing it with a layer of clear mascara — this acts as a top coat.

4. Smudged
The easiest route to a smoky stare? Just take a long-lasting eye pencil like CoverGirl Flamed Out Shadow Pencil (I like Ashen Glow Flame for my green eyes) and smudge it with your fingers into your lash line, then pair it with a coordinating dark-coloured mascara. My go-tos for this effect are hunter green or navy.

5. Neon
Go for the glow with a hot green or blue hue on your lash line and lashes. For mega impact, rock both liner and mascara on the top and bottom lashes.

6. Coloured Cat-Eye
Use a long-lasting cream shadow that you can control, like CoverGirl Intense ShadowBlast and fashion a cat-eye by applying it all over the lid, then clean up the edges using a cotton swab dipped in makeup remover.

Tip: Try eye shadow stencils for a perfect application on the first try.

7. Contrasting Colours
Opt for shades opposite on the colour wheel, like purple and green or cobalt with orangey bronze.

8. Multiple Shades Of The Same Hue
Want an ombre ocular effect? Pair liners and eye shadows in similar shades like: violet, plum and bright purple; hunter, kelly and mint green; or navy, turquoise and teal.
