3 Common Beauty Challenges, Solved

Designer Lynn Spence shares her tips for healthy hair, a vibrant smile and glowing skin.

When it comes to feeling beautiful at any age, healthy-looking hair, skin and teeth make for a knockout combination. Stylist and “Cityline” contributor Lynn Spence says, “We go through many changes as we age, and it is up to us to reacquaint ourselves with our bodies and learn what we need to look and feel our best.” Read on as we tackle these three common beauty challenges with simple solutions so you can wear your age with confidence.

The Challenge: Thinning Hair
“Thinning hair is something we all deal with as we age,” says Spence. “It lacks life and volume and can make even the brightest outfits fall flat. The right colour and cut are important, but it’s how we care for and style our hair day to day that makes the biggest difference.”

The Solution: Pull out All the Tricks (and the Right Products)
When it comes to healthy hair, choosing the right shampoo and conditioner is crucial. “I’ve been wowed by the Pantene Color Preserve Volume collection,” Spence says. “I love that it protects my colour and keeps it radiant – and that it doesn’t weigh down my hair. It’s great to have a product with dual benefits!”

Once your hair is silky soft and hydrated, Spence suggests applying Pantene Volume Body Boosting Mousse at the roots when hair is damp, and then incorporating Velcro rollers for an extra boost from root to tip. “The mousse creates separation between hair strands for volume, and the formula uses advanced triple-action technology, with invisible support for fine hair structure, to add bounce and movement.”

The Challenge: Dry Skin
“You may have noticed that as you age, your skin becomes drier and less firm,” Spence notes. “Staying hydrated is a great first step, but the real game changer is what you put on your skin. The truth is, great skin is easy to achieve with a consistent regimen.”

The Solution: Cleanse, Moisturize and Protect
A great day or night cream can work wonders, but it’s important to ensure your skin is clean before applying. A gentle but exfoliating cleanser deep cleans and speeds up surface cell regeneration. Try Olay Regenerist Regenerating Cream Cleanser, which doesn’t overdry skin and works with all skin types.

After cleansing, try using a serum before moisturizing – it’s packed with antioxidants that help prevent skin cell damage. Then top with a gel moisturizer like Olay Age Defying Advanced Hydrating Gel, formulated with hyaluronic acid to penetrate the skin’s surface and provide 24 hours of sheer and breathable hydration.

And don’t forget! Damage from the sun is the #1 cause of premature skin aging, and incidental sun exposure can wreak havoc on your skin when you’re least expecting it. Luckily, it’s never been easier to protect your skin. Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream with Sunscreen has SPF 30 so you can hydrate, protect and treat your skin all at once!

The Challenge: Aging Teeth
When you’re confident in how you look, you can’t help but smile. “Your smile is what draws people to you, and stained or aging teeth shouldn’t stand in your way,” Spence says. “Put your best look forward with a healthy smile.”

The Solution: Use the Right Tools for a Better Clean
Forty-eight percent of Canadians who haven’t seen a dentist in the past year have gum disease, though this can almost always be prevented or reversed if caught early. Investing in the right tools can help. Using an electric toothbrush such as the Oral-B Pro 1000 Black is like having your dentist in your bathroom: It removes 300 percent more plaque along the gumline than a manual brush. Spence suggests pairing your brush with Crest Pro-Health toothpaste to help remove surface stains. “Nothing completes a look quite like a bright smile!”
