A sun-kissed glow can be an instant pick-me-up for your look, but too much sun is not only terrible for your skin, but can majorly damper your mood, too. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to prevent sunburn, but there are also tricks you can use to quickly recover from a bad burn and disguise that bold-red shade. If you’ve recently over-sunned it, here are five tips to get you feeling back to normal in no time.

1. Moisturize
Severe sun exposure dries up your skin. So you need to add the moisture back immediately. If you don’t have access to an after-sun cream, place your regular moisturizer in the refrigerator before applying to cool down the skin. We love Olay Ultra Moisture Body Lotion.

2. Swap Your Makeup
Nix your regular foundation for a BB or CC cream. These miracle workers hydrate the skin while covering imperfections. Some creams, like Olay CC Cream, even help improve your skin tone over time — which is perfect for skin that might be blemished with spots from extended sun exposure.

3. Stay Matte
Sunburned skin tends to look a little shiny or oily. So stick to matte bronzer, blush and eyeshadow. Avoid any products that contain glitter or too much shimmer.

4. Go Light
If you’re trying to conceal a burn, it’s a natural reaction to apply more makeup. But you actually want to stay away from heavy coverage. Steer clear of dark smoky eyes and instead opt for a bronze or golden palette. When it comes to lips, try a golden moisturizing gloss to tone down the red — anything too pink will only make you look pinker.

5. Apply and Reapply
When you’re sunburned, it’s even more important to keep reapplying that sunscreen. Be sure to find one that moisturizes the skin and won’t clog pores, like Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer SPF 15 with SolaSheer Technology, Normal Skin. Don’t forget to reapply every two hours next time you’re outside sunbathing.

I find that the new spray sunscreen makes it easier to apply, and also tends to ensure that I don't miss any spots. With very fair skin, I burn quite easily. I always try my best to reapply as often as I need.
