When it comes to black-tie events, the ideas for dresses, makeup and hairdos are endless. Who doesn’t love the opportunity to dress up?

Fast forward to the night of, and more often than not, we’re running late or something goes wrong and need to look elegant — fast!

Look no further, I have three simple, chic and easy hairstyle options to consider!

1. A Messy, French Twist
The key here is “messy,” ladies. If you spend too much time trying to perfect a French twist, you might end up with sore arms and a matronly look. The best way to style a twist is to gather all of your hair at the nape of the neck, twist upward into a coil position on the back of the head and then secure with combs specifically made for the hairstyle.

If your hair is longer than shoulder level, tuck the remaining ends into the twist before securing the clips. Be sure to lightly spray your twist with a hairspray like Pantene Flexible Hold Hairspray to ensure a long-lasting look. For a black-tie affair, look for clips that have pretty, elegant embellishments.

2. A Sophisticated Hair Clip
Speaking of hair clips, a beautiful clip can take a very practical hairstyle to an entirely new level. Here’s my secret — you don’t need to use a clip specifically for hair. Why not use a pendant from a necklace? In the photo below, I nestled a jewelled pendant into the base of my half updo, and it took all of five seconds to complete. If you are worried about the pendant moving around, just secure it with a few bobby pins. Voilà! Instant glamour.

3. Retro Glamour Locks
Looking to create an über glam vintage vibe? Add some retro curls around the face for a beautiful black-tie look. You can achieve this a few different ways — pin curls have been the standard for decades, but you can also create the wave by wrapping 5- or 7-centimetre sections around the barrel of a curling iron.

It takes much less time and still looks lovely. Don’t forget to protect your hair from heat styling by using a product like Pantene Heat Protection Spray. It will shield your strands against damage while sealing in shine.
