The undercut. Remember this style from a few decades back? It was a huge look for skaters and surfers alike back in the day. Well, guess what? Edgy celebs and tastemakers alike have made the daring, high-fashion undercut style the hair trend du jour.

Personally, my head won't be getting up close and personal with clippers any time soon, but I am loving this super cool, couture braid called "the braided undercut," which gives off a similar effect with no buzz cut required. Here's how to get this romantic yet modern look in four easy steps!

1. Create a Deep Part
To achieve the true undercut look, you need to part your hair deeply onto one side. A good aide for finding a deep part is to use the arch of your eyebrow as a guide. Anywhere between the arch and the end of your eyebrow is a good place to part your hair. Run the tail end of the comb through your hair to create the part.

2. Secure Hair
Take all of the hair on the fuller half and pin it out of the way so you can easily braid the smaller side of your head without losing your place.

3. Create a Few Small Braids
On the undercut side, you will need to create two to four braids very close to the scalp. You can braid normally, but a French braid will emulate the undercut the best. (Also, if you are braid-challenged, try creating this look with twists instead. It's much easier!)

Braid the hair horizontally across the head until you reach the backside of the head. Use a bobby pin for each braid, making sure to secure tightly to the scalp. The bobby pins will be hidden when you let all of the remaining hair down.

4. Add Volume to the Full Side

Once the braids are secured, let the rest of your hair down and gently tease hair at the crown for added volume. Don't worry if some of the hair falls over the braids — that's what truly gives the look so much edge, as well as the illusion of a shaved side.

Are you ready to rock this summer trend? I can't wait to bust it out!
