Do you fantasize about chopping your hair shorter than shoulder length, but can’t bear to part with it? (It took so long to grow out, after all.) We’ve all been there, but here’s an easy solution. If you need a fresh look but you aren’t ready to make the commitment to a shorter cut, give this style a shot. A loose, natural-looking faux bob is the perfect, effortlessly-chic accent to any look. Plus, you can take this style for a test run before chopping your tresses. Here’s how to achieve it in four simple steps.

  1. Start with day-old hair. If you just washed, apply mousse, like Vidal Sasson Boost and Lift Foaming Air Mousse, to give your hair some texture and hold. Section your hair from above the ears and pin it on top.

  2. Gather the bottom half of your hair into a ponytail and twist it into a bun. Pin the bun close to your head with several bobby pins.

  3. Release the top layer of your hair over the bun. Taking a few sections, roll the sections under and pin underneath. I usually do one in back and one on each side. Make sure all pieces are secure.

  4. As a finishing touch, be sure to muss the hair very gently to give it a natural and realistic vibe. If you have bangs or face-framing layers in front, be sure to pull them out. Apply Vidal Sassoon Extra Firm Hold Hairspray, which helps prevent flyaways for fashionable control all day long!
