4 Tips for Vibrant Hair Colour This Summer

Protect your hair colour from the elements this summer with our 4 tips.

When you think of the onslaught your poor hair withstands during summer — sun, sand, wind, frizz-inducing temps — is it any wonder that your strands are so often lacklustre come September? Summer’s fun wrecks havoc on your locks, leaving them dull, frizzy and faded. And the biggest casualty is often your hair colour, which can go from gorgeous to glum seemingly overnight. Here are five easy tips for keeping your colour looking stellar all summer long.

1. Wash with Sulphate-free Products
Washing your hair, especially with shampoo, can be a double-edged sword. On one hand, it’s getting your hair and scalp clean, leaving you with smooth, squeaky-clean tresses. On the other, it can be drying, especially in the dead of summer when your hair is already fighting detrimental elements.

For a little extra protection against fade, try products that are sulphate free — like Herbal Essences Colour Me Happy Cleansing Conditioner. It will help your colour stay vibrant and keep your strands moisturized.

2. Apply a Weekly Hair Mask
Dry hair equals dull, flat colour, so by replenishing moisture and vitamins, your locks will shine. Our favourite weekly treatment is the Pantene Damage Detox Weekly Rehab Crème.

3. Apply Conditioner Before Swimming
Heading to the pool or the beach? Try applying a conditioner, like Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Deeeeep Conditioner, to prevent strands from drying out too much. Doing this before each swim is like an intensive hydrating treatment minus the hair salon!

4. Try an At-home Colour Kit
If all else fails, give your colour a little boost at home! Choose a colour that creates multi-tonal highlights and lowlights. Just be sure it comes in the shade you need.
