Having fine hair doesn’t have to be a nightmare. If you feel like you’ve tried every trick in the book to give your locks some oomph, don’t give up just yet. Read on for six haircare tips and styles designed to amp up your fine strands in an instant.
1. Keep Greasy Hair Under Control
Oil builds up faster in fine, thin hair. Even though friends with thick hair can go days without washing, you can’t. The more oil you allow to build up, the more it will weigh your hair down and cause your roots to look greasy.
Tip: Be sure to have Pantene’s Original Fresh Dry Shampoo on hand so if you do skip a day of shampooing, your hair won’t show it.
2. Focus Conditioner on Ends
Conditioners, even those that volumize, contain ingredients that can weigh down on fine hair. When conditioning, focus on your ends, use sparingly and don’t condition your roots.
3. Blow-dry Hair Upside down
This will give your hair an instant lift! Before drying, apply a little volumizing mousse or root lifter for a lasting boost.
4. Choose Products Wisely
Fine-haired heads should stay away from heavy serums, oils and shine sprays. A product you should go for? Pantene Expert Age Defy Advanced Thickening Treatment — it helps thicken existing hair strands for fuller-looking and thicker-feeling hair.
5. Coloured Hair is Fuller-looking Hair
Colouring your hair (especially with highlights or lowlights) will add dimension. Hair dye absorbs oil, leaving your hair temporarily volumized. If you’re looking to just touch up your roots, try Clairol Root Touchup — it’s available in tons of shades to match your current colour.
6. Be a Smart Stylist
The simpler the style, the better. Give one of these looks a try:
Ponytail: Fine hair always looks good in a ponytail. With hair pulled back, you don’t have to worry as much about it getting oily. Before pulling hair back, backcomb a few sections to give fullness to your overall style.
Curls or Waves: Use a curling iron or curling wand to give your hair the bounce it needs. Curl your strands in small sections and apply volumizing hairspray to each piece you curl. When finished curling, flip your head over and spray your hair again. Shake your head around a bit, and you’re good to go.
Half-up, Half-down: Whether you are wearing your hair curly or straight, this style will add depth to your ‘do. By separating your hair, it gives the illusion of thickness. You can also loosen the top section of your hair by gently tugging on it after you secure it; this gives it a messy but voluminous look.
