It's when the cuticles and cortex get damaged that you get split ends, breakage and drying. This makes conditioning important when the heat is on, regardless of your hair type. Try these tips to help keep your hair healthy in the heat.
Fine, Straight Hair
Shorter styles in the summer are perfect for this hair type because the less your hair weighs, the less likely the style is to flatten out. Condition just the tips of your hair, and apply a volumizing treatment at the roots. If you're going to blow-dry your hair, do so upside down to add lift. If the style starts to flatten, fluff by applying a little volumizing hair spray, such as Pantene® Sheer Volume Outrageous Body Hairspray Maximum Hold Aerosol, to the roots.
Damaged, Porous Hair
Air drying during the warmer months is best for this hair type because the heat from blow-drying can lift your hair's cuticles, making it even more porous and prone to frizzing. After washing, towel your hair dry, then apply a smoothing gel such as Pantene Always Smooth Anti-Frizz Serum. Allow to dry naturally and style.
Chemically Treated Hair
If you have colour-treated, permed or relaxed hair, it's a good idea to avoid chlorine and saltwater altogether. But if you do take a swim, wet your hair before and after. Carry a bottle of water for a quick rinse if a shower isn't available. And remember that regardless of your style, chemically treated hair is susceptible to sun damage because the cuticle already has been weakened, so take extra care to pamper your hair.
